I don't have a good story about my grandfather handing me a camera and instantly falling in love with photography. After living in almost 60 homes by the time I graduated high school, I was sucked into the restaurant business as I dabbled in photography. I swore I'd never photograph people, and preferred shooting landscapes and flowers with my point-n-shoot 2 MP camera. But those adventures led me to abandoned spaces and eventually to tossing a model in said spaces for practice. I learned about light, posing, and avoiding trespassing signs. Naturally, my love for portraiture grew and I started photographing families, children, and even weddings. Now that I've left the restaurant business and nurtured my business, I've fallen hard for the documentary side. I always struggled with posing and educating clients about wardrobe choices, so the transition to natural, authentic photography has been a welcome one. I freak out (like, get stupid-giddy) about light, grunt when I get THAT shot, and can't wait to show you how beautiful your life already is.
Things I'm absolutely #obsessed with: Yummy light, guacamole, brides that smile, genuine hugs, peppermint patties, TRAVEL, large vocabularies, iced coffee, anything lavender, the sound of my shutter, and my 17 year old cat, Moo.
Things that creep me out #ew: Butterflies. Shiny food. Khakis.

Q: Do you work with another photographer?
A: I will always have an assistant with me, and second shooters are available should you feel the need for more coverage. Adding a second shooter will yield about 20% more images, alternate angles, and can help alleviate the tight timeline of your wedding day. Rest assured if you book Sonju Photography for your wedding, you get Stephanie Sonju, and not some associate I've hired out.
Q: Do you do video?
A: Not currently, but I do have a list of trusted videographers and cinematographers that I love working with. I'm sure you'll be stoked with their work, too!
Q: What type of gear do you use?
A. I shoot with professional Canon equipment and bring back-ups with me. I prefer to shoot portraits in that yummy golden glow, but I do not call myself a "natural light photographer". I will use artificial light when needed, but my main goal is to not distract or interfere with the day's events.
Q: When will we get our photos?
A: My couples usually receive the link to their online gallery within three weeks. Albums, prints, and wall art are delivered within two weeks of placing your order. Your online gallery will be live for 90 days.
